Benjamin Clementine announces new record ‘And I Have Been’, shares lead single ‘Genesis’

Zack Sharf Sony Pictures has announced the “return of the original ‘Karate Kid’ franchise” to the big screen by dating a new “Karate Kid” movie for June 7, 2024. While the franchise has lived on thanks to Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” series, which just debuted its fifth season on the streaming platform, this new “Karate Kid” project will be the franchise’s first film offering since a 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith. The 2024 “Karate Kid” movie does not yet have a synopsis from the studio or a cast and crew attached. Other new titles added to Sony’s release calendar include an untitled horror movie from Screen Gems set for release on Jan. 6, 2023 and “Missing,” the next installment in the “Searching” franchise. Storm Reid and Nia Long star in “Missing,” which opens Feb. 24, 2023.

New York-based experimental punk trio Show Me The Body has revealed its third studio album Trouble The Water. It's out October 28 via Loma Vista Recordings.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Laika, the animation studio behind “ParaNorman” and “Coraline,” has announced a six-part series exploring the costumes, props and sets from its iconic films. Titled “Laika Archives,” the series will be released on Sept. 13 via the company’s YouTube channel and features artisans like costume designer Deb Cook, head of model-making Keith McQueen and writer-director Chris Butler. Says Butler, “There’s something truly magical about walking into a room and seeing a table full of gorgeous sculpts, gorgeous artwork that’s been created by very talented people.” David Burke, Laika chief marketing officer and SVP of operations, adds: “Laika creates movies that matter. It takes a community of talented artists, artisans and technologists to make a Laika film. Because they are crafted in the stop motion animation medium, the studio has many physical assets from each film.”

Weyes Blood has announced details of her new album ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’ and shared its first single, ‘It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody’.The California artist, real name Natalie Mering, will release the follow-up to ‘Titanic Rising’ on November 18 via Sub Pop.‘Titanic Rising’ was the first album of three in a special trilogy, which placed emphasis on the doom to come. ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’, meanwhile, is described as “a search for an escape hatch to liberate us from algorithms and ideological chaos”.“We’re in a fully functional shit show,” Mering says.

Cavetown has shared details of his new album ‘Worm Food’ alongside a new single ‘1994’ and news of an extended UK tour.The singer-songwriter (real name Robin Skinner) will release his fifth album – the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Sleepyhead’ – on November 4 via Sire Records.Skinner said of his new single: “‘1994’ is about dealing with perceived guilt and how it can become over-exaggerated in my head. I’m working on defining the line between what’s really wrong in a situation versus what is made up in my head, because it’s the parts that aren’t real that I end up feeling quite guilty about.“The lyrics are a message to myself, to help me see that there’s still a child inside of me that is deserving of love and care.

Billy Nomates has announced details of her second album,’CACTI’, and is previewing it with first single ‘Balance Is Gone’.The new record, which follows a debut album from 2020 and last year’s follow-up EP ‘Emergency Telephone’, is released on January 13, 2023 via the Invada label.Speaking of the process of writing the new album, Billy Nomates – aka Tor Maries – said: “Writing ‘CACTI’ took just over a year. I wrote very intensely and then none at all. (This seems to be the way I work best).“I picked up old drum machines, mapped out things in my kitchen with the same small micro keyboard I always use and then raided the cupboards and rooms at Invada Studios, to play and experiment with old synths, an upright piano, this weird organ thing.

Chicago rapper G Herbo has announced his new album Survivor's Remorse with its lead single "Me, Myself & I" featuring New York's A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The new track continues on the path Herbo laid with his 2020 project PTSD, an album about wounds both physical and unseen, and how easy it is to get sidetracked on the road to healing. Judging from Herbo's lyrics, he's wrestling with the same demons that defined so much of PTSD: "I been tweakin' (Trippin'), hardly ever sleepin' (Slippin') / Always overthinkin' (I feel it), tryna duck the reaper (That's how I'm livin')" A Boogie's verses are a bit too cloying to stack up next to Herbo's, though, even when they're trading bars in the final verse.
