A Benidorm expert has issued a stark warning to holidaymakers about a common scam involving beachside drinks.
TikTok user frankthestagman has alerted tourists to the dangers of illegal vendors who masquerade as legitimate beach club employees, selling alcohol on the sand. These sellers, he cautions, are not only offering potentially unsafe beverages made in questionable conditions but also putting buyers at risk of legal trouble.
In a video posted on TikTok, Frank advised his followers: "Keep away from the likes of this guy here. He is an illegal drink seller and those drinks look really nice, they do, but the problem you've got is that the people that do this sort of thing - he's gonna walk down to the ledge and make it seem like he's from that beach club.
"And what he's gonna do is try and sell those cocktails at a tenner each, and they've been made by the side of the road in the boot of a car. You don't know what's in them."
Frank then pointed out an individual with a tray full of drinks heading towards the beach, emphasising the potential consequences: "If you buy drinks from these vendors on the beach, you can seriously get a huge fine. It's a bit unfair in a way as it should be just the vendor that gets the fine.
"The reason police will fine is you are the fuel, you are the food for them to go out and do this. Police can't really do anything about it until they catch him selling you a drink. So the problem you've got is you have become part of that process."
People commenting on the TikTok video expressed outrage at the idea of fining consumers. One user penned: "How does it make sense to fine the consumer? The police should be doing a better job in stopping them rather than blame the tourists." Another fired back:
