Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic For his new “Honeymind” album, singer and actor Ben Platt brought in an especially honeyed voice as a counterpart on one song, Brandy Clark. He had written “Treehouse” in a writing session with Clark well before the album was being put together, and then he and producer Dave Cobb had the eureka (or as Platt puts it, “duh”) moment of realizing just how much more haunting it might sound as a duet with the co-writer, whose chops obviously don’t begin and end with songwriting prowess.

Ben Platt’s new album is titled “Honeymind,” but given the ”Dear Evan Hansen” star’s upcoming nuptials to Noah Galvin, it could almost be called “Honeymoon.”The two singer-actors, both 30 and Brooklyn residents, got engaged in November 2022 — and the groomzilla countdown has begun.“The engagement is on!” Platt said in The Post’s exclusive video series, “Music to My Years,” outside one of the couple’s favorite date spots, Joseph Leonard restaurant. The location just happens to be across the street from the iconic LGBTQ institution Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. “We’re getting married in the fall.

“Dear Evan Hansen” actor Ben Platt has kicked off a 18-show residency at Broadway’s historic Palace Theatre, which runs through June 15.
After countless nights owning the Broadway stage in “Dear Evan Hansen” — in his Tony-winning role as the title character — Ben Platt was hit with a serious case of Evan-esque anxiety before his first time singing his own material in public. The meltdown went down in January 2019 at the Bowery Hotel in Manhattan at a showcase previewing his debut studio album, “Sing to Me Instead,” which was released later that year.“I’m not necessarily someone who gets nervous or afraid to perform,” Platt, 30, told The Post. “I’ve been doing theater my whole life.
For Ben Platt, his coming-out party as a pop artist on “Sing to Me Instead,” his 2018 debut studio LP, was no big queer reveal.“When I made my first album, it was sort of received as, like, a ‘coming out’ — and it’s not even something that I anticipated,” Platt, 30, said in The Post’s exclusive video series, “Music to My Years.”In fact, for Platt, it was all a matter of fact: The Tony-winning star of “Dear Evan Hansen” had come out as gay long before that — “when I was 12 or 13,” he said.“If I’m going to write about my relationship or I’m going to depict it in a music video, it’s a queer relationship,” said Platt of openly expressing his sexuality. “So it was kind of a no-brainer to me.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marital problems, the “Fargo” actor’s ex wife, Jennifer Garner, is rooting for the couple to stay together in light of his past struggles with substance abuse.“We all know that if Ben falls off the wagon, Jennifer [Garner] will have to pick up the pieces — she always does,” a source told Paula Froelich of NewsNation. However, despite Garner’s support, the “Jenny from the Block” singer isn’t a fan of her hubby’s ex.“Lopez is not particularly fond of Garner — and the two, while distantly friendly, do not speak,” Froelich previously reported. The “13 Going on 30” actress, who was married to Affleck, 51, from 2005 to 2018 and shares three children — Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12 — with him, is “encouraging Ben to work on his marriage to Jen,” and “fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy,” a source told Us Weekly last week. Garner, 52, is focusing on the well-being of Affleck, who was in rehab multiple times, and their kids.“She wants him happy and healthy so he can be the best dad possible,” a source told People this week.Lopez and Affleck were most recently seen together at Violet’s high school graduation party on Thursday. However, they didn’t stay long, and quickly bolted from the soirée, which was at Garner’s house, after only one hour. The pair then got into a car together and traveled to the mansion Affleck is reportedly renting since he moved out of their shared abode.

his 18-show residency at Broadway’s historic Palace Theatre, Ben Platt didn’t just conjure up the spirits of Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli and other legends of the newly renovated venue. The Tony-winning star of “Dear Evan Hansen” also channeled James Taylor on a beaming rendition of JT’s 1977 classic “Your Smiling Face.” And it’s ’70s singer-songwriters such as Taylor, Cat Stevens and Paul Simon (with and without Art Garfunkel) who are the touchstone troubadours from the first notes of Platt crooning “like a canary” on his third studio album “Honeymind,” out on Friday. But right after the airy acoustic guitar balladry of opener “Right Kind of Reckless,” you realize that we’re not in Kansas anymore. The LP’s second track, “All American Queen,” comes sashaying on out as the queer anthem we needed to kick off Pride Month in June.“He was born in the sticks, right in the middle of fall/He wants to be a cheerleader, runs away from the ball/He’s got a song in his heart and a collection of dolls/And there’s a pale shade of pink on his bedroom wall,” Platt sings on this shimmering sunshine-pop bop.
