For those who have always dreamed of living by the sea, the new research that has been released by Lloyds has revealed where you will get the most bang for your buck. According to the bank, Rothesay on the Isle of Bute is the most affordable coastal destination both in Scotland and the UK — with homes costing on average just £101,477.
Rothesay, which is the main town on the island, is situated on the coast of the Firth of Clyde. It can be reached via ferry from the Inverclyde village of Wemyss Bay, which in turn benefits from a rail link to Glasgow.

The island town is known for its Victorian heritage, with many picturesque historic buildings. Among the highlights of Rothesay are the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, Rothesay Castle, and the fascinating Bute Museum.
Meanwhile, other affordable coastal destinations in Scotland include Greenock in Inverclyde and Girvan in South Ayrshire, where homes cost £107,111 and £107,349 on average respectively. Rounding out the top five on Lloyds' list are Millport on Great Cumbrae and Saltcoats in North Ayrshire, where you can expect to pay £113,622 and £115,372 for a home.
