On Halloween 2023, bbymutha announced her first-ever record deal following a decade of independence, a short-lived retirement, and 13 short-form releases in the past three-and-a-half years alone. Celebrating her signing with indie powerhouse True Panther, she shared a snappy track titled “gun kontrol.” Now, the Chatanooga MC is back with another song (“go!”) and news of her sophomore album, sleep paralysis.
The follow-up to her 2020 opus Muthaland by is due out April 19. Where the two-minute “gun kontrol” felt like an explosive speed run, the three-minute “go!” sees bbymutha stretching out over a spiky instrumental, sharing intimate details of her romantic attachment style that are alternately menacing (“You can leave but you can’t go / Better not ever catch you out here fuckin’ with these hoes”), unhinged (“N***as love to play, if I’m crazy I’m supposed to be / Daddy was a jealous guy, what the fuck you want from me?”), vulnerable (“I be needin’ kisses in the morning, cuddles in the evening”), and plain horny (“I’m tryna fill up the hole in my heart and the hole in my pussy too”).
