BBC team up with TaP Music again to select Eurovision 2023 entrant

Either Liverpool or Glasgow will host Eurovision 2023. The shortlist of cities has been cut from seven to just two today.

The decision between which UK city will host the Eurovision Song Contest next year has been narrowed down to two finalists.

Either Liverpool or Glasgow is set to host the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine next year, it has been announced. Ukraine, who had this year's winning act Kalush Orchestra, have been left unable to host next year due to the country's ongoing war with Russia.

The Dutch artist and producer Dennis Stehr, better known as Mr Probz, has filed new legal proceedings against Sony Music in the Amsterdam courts in an ongoing dispute over how the major calculates and reports his royalties.He accuses the major of deliberately failing to calculate his cut of any income on an ‘at source’ basis and of withholding bookkeeping files that his accountants need to see in order to effectively audit the money he is due. The legal action seeks “full payment of royalties after the deduction of a reasonable distribution fee to Sony Music”, which Stehr reckons equates to millions of euros.Stehr and his company Left Lane Recordings originally entered into a licensing deal with Sony in the Netherlands in 2013 in relation to his track ‘Waves’ and the Robin Schulz remix of that recording.

Eurovision is expected today (September 27).The UK’s entry Sam Ryder came in at second place to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra in this year’s competition, scoring an impressive 466 points overall with his song ‘Space Man’.It was later confirmed that the BBC would host next year’s event on these shores on behalf of Ukraine due to the ongoing war in the latter country.Last month, organisers revealed the seven shortlisted cities: Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.The locations were selected having met certain criteria, such as venue capacity, being within easy reach of an international airport, and having enough hotel accommodation to hold delegates, journalists and spectators.Per the BBC, the selection process was heavily weighted towards the cities proving past experience in hosting major international events, as well as being able to demonstrate their ability to stage a celebration of contemporary music.Th chosen cities then entered a second and final stage in the process, through which they were asked to submit further details on their Eurovision plans.It was said at the time that a winner would be picked by the BBC in conjunction with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and the successful city would be announced in the autumn.Now, multiple outlets are reporting that the BBC will make a Eurovision 2023 announcement at some point today.

The BBC has said an update on the Eurovision Song Contest host city shortlist is expected later today (Tuesday September 27). Manchester is among the cities currently shortlisted to host the international singing competition.

Roger Waters has announced the European dates for his ‘This Is Not A Drill Tour’.The former Pink Floyd frontman kicks off the European leg of his tour in 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal on March 17.Other confirmed cities on what he has been teasing as his “first farewell tour” include Barcelona, Madrid, Milan and Krakow. The European tour finishes up in Prague on May 24.Waters is currently playing shows in the US, continuing the ‘This Is Not A Drill’ tour tomorrow (September 17) in Tacoma, Washington and finishing in Mexico City on October 15.

Thania Garcia Universal Music Group has been awarded the Ukraine Peace Prize, a recognition bestowed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for the music company’s wartime support and humanitarian relief efforts in the region.
