Charles Hanson, a well-known face from Bargain Hunt, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and coercive behaviour against his wife Rebecca Ludlam.
The 45 year old auctioneer appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. During the brief hearing, Charles, who lives in Mackworth, Derby, was accused of causing actual bodily harm between May 13 and 17 2020 and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour from May 2015 to June 2023. The TV star, also known for his appearances on Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, only spoke to confirm his date of birth and enter his pleas of not guilty.
The judge stated that the charges were too serious for a magistrates' court trial and moved the case to Derby Crown Court. Dressed in a blue suit and red tie, Hanson was granted bail and is due to appear at the crown court on February 7. He was instructed not to contact his wife Rebecca or visit their family home in Quarndon, except once to collect his personal belongings.
This follows after police were called to a domestic incident in June at the £1.5million family home in Derbyshire that Charles had shared with his wife Rebecca since 2014. He later moved out of the six-bedroom home and was charged with seven alleged offences on 14 December. At the time Charles said in a statement: "I deny all of the charges.
I have never behaved aggressively or unlawfully towards my family. "We have been through some difficult times in our marriage and it is extremely sad that this has become a criminal matter. I will be co-operating fully with the investigation and legal process." Charles shot to fame as a TV star when he first appeared on BBC show Bargain Hunt in 2002, as the youngest expert on the team aged just 25.
