BAFTA TV Awards to go ahead virtually for the first time with Richard Ayoade as host

The 93rd Academy Awards will be held April 25, 2021, eight weeks later than planned, and the British Academy Film Awards is shifting its originally announced February 2021 ceremony to April 11.The Emmy Awards are considered a kickoff for the new TV season that traditionally begins in September, although virus-caused production delays have raised questions about whether shows will be ready to air as planned.Nominations for the 72nd prime-time Emmys will be announced by the TV academy on July 28.

Following on the heels of AMPAS, the British Academy has now revealed that it is making temporary changes to the eligibility criteria for its 2021 film awards, which have been moved from Feb. 14 to April 11 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and Oscars date shift.

Following the Academy’s decision to delay next year’s Oscars by two months, from February 28 to April 25 2021, BAFTA has moved their ceremony from February 14 to April 11, 2021.BAFTA have rescheduled the ceremony in order to extend their eligibility period in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The British Academy has named Krishnendu Majumdar as its new chair, with the award-winning TV producer becoming the first person of color to be appointed to the role in BAFTA’s 73-year history and its youngest chair in 35 years. Majumdar, who has been deputy chair for one year, is due to remain as chair for the next three years — the newly extended term for all future BAFTA chairs.

The British Academy's 2020 TV and TV craft awards are set to go ahead, but under new COVID-19-era restrictions. Originally scheduled for the spring, both ceremonies were postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but BAFTA has now confirmed that the TV craft awards will be held July 17 and the main TV awards will take place July 31.
