BAFTA Names Steering Group To Tackle Diversity Issues

Parrotheads may have to be wasting away without Margaritaville this summer -- but they're still getting Jimmy Buffett music to tide them over. On Friday (May 29), Buffett releases Life on the Flip Side, a lavishly packaged 14-song set that's his first new album in seven years.

Local actor Arno Greeff is no stranger to the local entertainment space. Fans would recognise the star from his appearances on series like ‘Getroud Met Rugby’ and ‘Binnelanders’ and films like ‘Die Pro’ and ‘Vaselinetjie’. But, it’s his recent performance in Netflix’s second African original series ‘Blood & Water’ that has introduced him to a wider audience than ever before – and the country can’t help but notice his talent.

In 1993, Lorena and John Bobbitt became household names after years of alleged domestic abuse and assault led to Lorena cutting her then-husband’s penis off with a knife. The incident and subsequent trial, where she was found not guilty by reason of insanity, became a source of never-ending tabloid headlines and late-night jokes as both tried to move forward with their lives. 

On the evening of June 23, 1993, a 24-year-old Lorena Bobbitt used a carving knife to cut off her husband John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis and then chucked it into a roadside field after fleeing their apartment. From the outside, it appeared to many to be a gruesome attack by a scorned wife. The incident and subsequent trial, where she was found not guilty by reason of insanity, became fodder for tabloids and late-night comedians alike, making both household names at the time.
