Anton Dowds admits it’s a joy to be playing in an Ayr United side creating so many chances for him.
The on loan Partick striker made it three goals in three games since joining from the Jags last month as he made the scoresheet once again at Airdrie on Saturday. His hot streak has helped United turn the corner – with the thumping strike at the weekend assisting Ayr to an important win on the road.
Dowds said: “What I was looking for was a run of games to show what I could do. When someone shows a belief in you, you want to repay that and hopefully that’s what I’m starting to do here.
“With the 4-4-2 system we’re playing we maybe sacrifice a man in the middle of the park but we have such quality in the wide areas. I also have great guys to play up front with and you know you will get great workrate from whoever it is. And that goes through the whole team.
“We knew we had to come here and get a good result, especially after last week’s game against Raith where we played so well in the second half and got nothing out of it. My goal was something we’d worked on in training and thankfully it paid off. It sets us up now for Dunfermline away and hopefully we can keep this going.”
Dowds' strike added to a Logan Chalmers volley in the first half as Ayr ran out 2-1 winners with an impressive display. They now enjoy a break this weekend before heading to East End Park a week on Saturday.
