Parents want to enrol as many as eight kids at a mothballed school.
Carsphairn Primary has been closed since 2019 after the last of the pupils left.
A report for Thursday’s meeting of the education and learning committee proposed keeping it mothballed as there was only one family who wished to enrol their child at the school following an email to parents on December 27.
But after concern was raised around the enrolment process, parents were given until the close of play the day after the meeting to say whether they wanted their kids to go to Carsphairn.
And the News understands six enrolment forms were handed in at Dalry School, with another one being sent directly to council bosses.
However, the council claims there have only been six requests – one from a child outwith the catchment area.
A spokesman added: “As pupil numbers continue to be below the threshold agreed by members in December 2022, this does not affect the status of Carsphairn Primary School which will remain mothballed for session 2024/25.
At the meeting, Dee and Glenkens councillor Dougie Campbell said he’d been contacted by parents who wanted to send their kids to the school but missed the enrolment period, which ran from January 29 and February 2.
He told the meeting: “Having read the emails from parents, there is the possibility of as many as six or seven pupils of primary school age who would want to attend Carsphairn Primary School.
“In fairness to the parents, I think it’s understandable they missed an email on December 27 and I’m sure many members of this committee would have missed emails from the council that would have come out during that particular period.”
