‘Luck’ Film Review: Animated Tale Delivers More Horseshoes Than Broken Mirrors

Jiji in ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service.” However, some of the supporting creatures seem far more generic; the porcine friends here almost look identical to those in the “Sing” franchise.Early on, while Sam and Bob are still on the human plane, there’s a chase scene a city just before sunset and just after rain. The detailed texture of the background surfaces, how the light reflects on the puddles of water, and the way the dreamy light of the sun right before it extinguishes washes over the chase, which also include multiple clever sight gags, demonstrating the top-notch digital artistry enlisted to render this film above average.Although “Luck” can’t reach the sophistication level of the best Pixar features, it stands as a far more accomplished effort from a technical standpoint and in the resonance of its story than the dime-a-dozen, talking-animal cash cows infested with vapid pop-culture references that have become the new standard in Hollywood animated releases. On the other hand, “Luck” falls into the ranks of a recurrent trope in modern American animation: It appears as though creators can engage with the supernatural or the life processes beyond our control only if they are depicted as corporations that must run smoothly, with a hierarchy where there’s a boss and employees that carry out labor.

‘Bullet Train’ Review: Brad Pitt Stars In Action Flick That Tries Too Hard To Stay On Track

Right from the start, you know exactly what you are in for with Bullet Train, a non-stop mix of violence, comedy, and more violence, Japanese-style, as filtered through the lens of director David Leitch, a stuntman turned filmmaker whose past credits of Atomic Blonde, Fast & Furious: Hobbs And Shaw, and Deadpool 2 pretty much prepare you for what to expect here. However, even though this was mostly shot on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, with some killer production design and a cool train courtesy of David Scheunemann, it undoubtedly feels we are in Tokyo where I am sure the Sony bosses were delighted with the dailies as they came in. Unfortunately, from my vantage point this just seems like a lark for star Brad Pitt, coming off an Oscar for the far superior Quentin Tarantino masterpiece, also from Sony, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the underrated Ad Astra, both pre-pandemic in 2019. His most notable appearance since has been in a comedic supporting role in The Lost City with Sandra Bullock who returns the favor here in a mostly voiceover role as his “handler,” therapist, self help guide, guru – whatever you want to call her – who is constantly guiding him through the messes he gets himself into.

How ‘Better Caul Saul’ Brought Back [SPOILERS] and Why the Director Didn’t De-Age Them

Jordan Moreau SPOILER ALERT: Do not read if you have not watched the 11th episode of “Better Call Saul” Season 6, titled “Breaking Bad.”After their “Better Call Saul” cameos were teased by the show’s co-creator Peter Gould before the start of the sixth and final season, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were finally back as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman Monday night. The two Emmy winners reprised their roles for the first time on the “Breaking Bad” prequel, just a few years after they shared the screen briefly in “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.” After fans theorized about when Walt and Jesse would show up, they were introduced during a flashback to “Breaking Bad” Season 2 Episode 8, an episode titled “Better Call Saul,” which introduced Bob Odenkirk’s character. That 2009 episode of “Breaking Bad” was also the first time we heard the names of the characters Lalo and Ignacio, but at the time they were just throwaway lines from Saul and never addressed again.
