EXCLUSIVE: APA on Thursday announced its signing of actress Madison Iseman.
Iseman is one of a number of emerging stars to have inked with the agency of late, joining a list that includes Rosa Salazar, Brianna Hildebrand, Trevor Jackson and Michael Rainey Jr. APA’s recent signing momentum has also seen it bring in such boldface names as Regina Hall, William H. Macy, Donnie Yen, Maria Bello, Ken Jeong, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cusack, Michael Cera and Russell Hornsby, to name a few.
Iseman is perhaps best known for starring in Columbia Pictures’ recent Jumanji films Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, which together grossed over $1.7B worldwide. She’s also been seen in New Line’s Conjuring Universe horror Annabelle Comes Home, as well as the Justin Baldoni-directed Clouds, which was the first feature-length film to launch on Disney+, and such additional titles as The F**k-It List (Netflix) and Goosebumps 2: Slappy’s Revenge (Columbia Pictures).
Iseman was one of the leads of Amazon’s recent series adaptation of I Know What You Did Last Summer and was seen last year in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Stories anthology for FX/Hulu. She’ll next be seen starring alongside Famke Janssen, Sean Bean and more in Sony’s film Knights of the Zodiac, based on the ’80s manga Saint Seiya, and continues to be repped by Zero Gravity Management and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.

A.D. Amorosi In 1972, director-writer Perry Henzell released his Jamaican crime flick “The Harder They Come” with singer-songwriter Jimmy Cliff — then, a burgeoning reggae star — as its anti-hero lead actor. For his menacing cinematic debut, Cliff provided the lion’s share of the film’s riveting soundtrack, with lilting songs such as “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and the movie’s title tune. Both the soundtrack and film (the latter released in the United States in 1973) became sensations. “The Harder They Come” brought island culture to the world beyond the Caribbean, and helped popularize reggae in the Americas. Along with his anthemic title song becoming an instant classic, Cliff’s “Many Rivers to Cross” was subsequently covered by Linda Ronstadt, John Lennon and Annie Lennox, among other artists. Along with being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, the Library of Congress deemed Cliff’s “The Harder They Come” worthy of preservation in the National Recording Registry as of 2021.
Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic In 1993, “The Joy Luck Club” made Hollywood history, proving to a skeptical — and let’s face it, racist — industry that there was mainstream demand for a culturally sensitive Chinese American ensemble drama. Three decades later, along comes “Joy Ride,” throwing sensitivity to the wind en route to obliterating any remaining barriers. Like “Girls Trip” with an all-Asian-American cast, the Seth Rogen-produced, hard-R road movie follows small-town besties Audrey (Ashley Park) and Lolo (Sherry Cola) to Beijing, where they tackle everything from taboo tattoos to a devil’s threesome with all the gusto you’d hope or expect from “Crazy Rich Asians” co-writer Adele Lim’s directorial debut.

Mike Wass Always introspective and often experimental, Madison Cunningham’s music doesn’t fit neatly into any one specific genre. The Recording Academy, for example, nominated 2019’s “Who Are You Now” for best Americana album, but recently bestowed her “Revealer” with the Grammy for best folk album. This, in itself, is a little mystifying for a project that leans heavily into alt-soundscapes and seemingly owes more of a debt to Fiona Apple than Joan Baez. Not that it bothers Cunningham. ”People like having references,” the 26-year-old tells Variety. “But I would never categorize ‘Revealer’ as folk at all.” When pressed on how she would label it, Cunningham pauses to consider. “I’ve had a hard time really being able to generalize what the sound is,” the California-bred artist says. “It’s electric guitar forward and it’s singer-songwriter. I guess I would categorize it under indie-rock alternative.”
