Antonio Banderas Says Oscar Noms for 'Pain and Glory' Are Recognition for His Community

Antonio Banderas has arrived to the Academy Awards with his two leading ladies in tow. On what could be the biggest night of his career, as he is nominated for his first Oscar Award for Best Actor for his role in Pain & Glory, he made sure to keep his daughter Stella Banderas and girlfriend Nicole Kimpel close by to celebrate with him.

Sunday’s Oscars ceremony had the biggest names in Hollywood take the stage to be recognized for their contribution in last year’s best films. Golden statuettes were handed out in 24 categories including Best Picture, Best Actress and, of course, Best Actor, for which Antonio Banderas received a nomination for his performance in Pedro Almodóvar film Pain and Glory.

Bong Joon Ho and Jin Won Han have won the best original screenplay Oscar for “Parasite” — becoming not only the first South Korean film to win an Oscar, but a relatively rare win for a foreign language screenplay.

. . And now, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas. All are proof that love isn’t lost after tabloid-splashed splits! Antonio is the latest screen star to gush over his ex to the press, and his words of affection for his “” will make you wish you had even a single ounce of his sophistication.

After a career spanning nearly four decades and including numerous gay roles, Antonio Banderas will finally be in contention for his first Best Actor award at this Sunday’s Oscars, for his heart-wrenching performance as a lonely and drug-addicted gay director in Pedro Almodóvar’s semi-autobiographical “Pain and Glory.”

The actor Antonio Banderas was first told he should pursue acting from an unlikely person: filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. The director responsible for Volver and Talk to Me passed by the Pain and Glory star on the street, and noted his good looks.

The International Cinephile Society is known for going its own way with its annual awards, and its latest edition is no exception. Leading the field for its 17th awards was Pedro Almodóvar’s semi-autobiographical “Pain and Glory,” which won best picture, and best actor for Antonio Banderas.

Antonio Banderas is nominated for his first Oscar – ever – for his role in Pablo Almodovar’s Pain and Glory. However, this is far from being his first time at the prestigious award ceremony celebrating Hollywood’s greatest.

The project from Madrid's The Mediapro Studio will be directed by Argentine filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat. The actors recently starred in "Pain and Glory", although they never appeared together on screen, reports variety.com.

The only daughter of Spanish actor Antonio Banderas and American acting royalty Melanie Griffith, Stella is a beauty of her own, but we can’t help but to think of how much she looks like her famous grandmother (who is an actress, animal rights activist, and former fashion model) Tippi Hedren (aka Melanie’s momma). Although Tippi is blonde, Stella and her share the same slender and fit frame with delicate facial features.
