Actor and filmmaker Andy Serkis will read all of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit during a livestream Friday, May 8th, to raise money for COVID-19 relief efforts.
The marathon event — which Serkis has fittingly dubbed “a Hobbitathon” — will kick off at 10 a.m. in the U.K. (5 a.m. EST and 2 a.m. PST) and is expected to last at least 12 hours. Serkis has set up a GoFundMe for the reading and hopes to raise £100,000 (about $123,000) for two U.K. organizations, Best Beginnings and NHS Charities Together.
