ABC entered a new realm of television with its first remote live episode of American Idol, which topped Sunday’s primetime ratings delivering a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 6.04 million viewers. The rating marked a two-tenths boost from last week’s special, and the two-hour program led into a fresh episode of The Rookie (0.7, 4.96M), which held steady in the demo and helped the network win the night overall in the demo.

“American Idol” made TV history amid the coronavirus pandemic by airing its first-ever remote results show. As people across the country continue to stay inside their homes in an effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19, the hit reality singing competition made the choice to forge ahead with the remainder of its season by having the contestants appear from their homes.
