Yesterday, AMC Theatres rejoiced as the company announced that it has secured enough funding (nearly $1 billion) to keep afloat during the pandemic and well into 2021. But that doesn’t mean the company thinks everything in the film industry is going really well right now, as more studios push films out of spring and into the second half of the year.

Variety is picking up on a story circulating in Japan that originated from local magazine Josei Jishin that says actor/director Kitano Takeshi will be making a samurai film, titled “Neck,” for his next filmmaking effort. The film is expected to be his final directorial effort and is based on his novel “Kubi” published in 2019.
Curtiss Cook, who has recurred as Douda on Showtime’s The Chi, has been promoted to series regular for Season 4. Additionally, Tabitha Brown (Princess of the Row) and Jason Weaver (Smart Guy, ATL) are set for recurring roles on the Lena Waithe-created drama series. The Chi is currently in production in Chicago and will return to the network later this year.

AMC Networks, the owner of AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and BBC America, is making a strategic investment in Canadian indie producer Shaftesbury, maker of the long-running family drama Murdoch Mysteries. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Shaftesbury CEO and chairman Christina Jennings, who will continue in the top post, told THR that AMC Networks was making a "significant and strategic" investment in her company, which would remain Canadian owned and controlled.
