Amazon Fire Stick TV warning as users urged to check for emergency update

All Fire Stick TV users are being urged to check whether or not devices have completed an urgent upgrade from Amazon.
The online retail giant has recently run an important software update in order to fix three serious issues that may have left users vulnerable to hackers. The bug allowed the popular streaming devices to be access by fraudsters due to security glitches.
The issues were identified by the security team at Bitdefender who then passed on the news to the Fire TV team, reports the Mirror. One flaw was found to be particularly dangerous with hackers able to gain control of devices via a tactic named PIN brute forcing.
However, the worrying findings have been tackled by an upgrade pushed out by Amazon before any customers have been targeted.
It is vital to check that your software has updated to ensure your device is fully save.
"The vulnerabilities presented have been responsibly disclosed to the vendor through their Bug Bounty program," Bitdefender explained.
"Amazon has released fixes for these issues on Fire TV devices and the Fire TV remote app, and the company has no evidence that this issue has been used against customers. Bitdefender has been working closely with the Amazon Fire TV team through all stages of vulnerability disclosure. We would like to extend our thanks for the prompt response time, communication, transparency and escalation", they added.
To make sure your device has received the upgrade click on to Settings > My Fire TV > About and select Check for System Update
