Thania Garcia Amanda Miguel, Yordano, Rosario Flores, Myriam Hernández and Rita Lee will receive the Latin Recording Academy’s 2022 Lifetime Achievement awards, the academy announced on Thursday. Label executive Manolo Díaz, Cuban saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera and Abraham Laboriel will be recipients of the Trustees Award. The private awards ceremony will be held one day before the 2022 Latin Grammys on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. “The collective accomplishments of this extraordinary group of artists and their contributions to Latin music are immeasurable,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of the Latin Recording Academy. “It will be a great privilege to honor these legendary figures during Latin Grammy week in Las Vegas.”
The Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented to performers who “have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music and its communities,” and the Trustees awards recognize similar influential figures for reasons other than performance. Both distinctions are voted on by the Latin Recording Academy’s board of trustees. Italian-born Venezuelan singer-songwriter Yordano began his musical career in 1978 as a vocalist with the band Sietecuero. His second self-titled solo album, which included the hit song “Manantial de Corazón,” made him an international sensation in 1984. Argentine singer Miguel studied music in Buenos Aires, where she met singer/songwriter Diego Verdaguer — her future husband and creative partner. Miguel put out a trilogy of concept albums known as “El Sonido” between 1981 and 1984 which boasted the beloved track “Así No Te Amará Jamás.” In a career now spanning more than four decades, her latest endeavor is the 2022 “Siempre Te

EJ Panaligan editor Lifetime has announced two new TV movies, “A Rose For Her Grave” and “Desperate Hours,” both inspired by novels from author Ann Rule. “A Rose For Her Grave” stars Chrishell Stause of “Selling Sunset” fame, Colin Egglesfield and Laura Ramsey, and follows serial wife-killer Randy Roth opposite the woman who finally brings him to justice. Gina Gershon will serve as a first-time director for “Desperate Hours.” Samantha Mathis, Harrison Thomas and David Conrad star in the film. The screenplay is an adaptation of Rule’s novel “Last Chance.” The film follows a mother who finds herself and her young children held hostage by a man who forces his way into their home after committing a murder earlier in the day.

Guy Lodge Film Critic Rather like the arc of the moral universe, “Argentina, 1985” is long, but bends toward justice. Effectively dramatizing the country’s landmark Trial of the Juntas, history’s first instance of a civilian justice system convicting a military dictatorship, Santiago Mitre’s broad, sprawling, heart-on-sleeve courtroom saga may draw from the same nightmarish period of history that has informed much of Argentine cinema’s most essential, haunting works — from 1985’s Oscar-winning “The Official Story” to last year’s “Azor” — but eschews any subtle arthouse stylings for a storytelling sensibility as robustly populist as anything by Sorkin or Spielberg. Small wonder, then, that Amazon Studios has boarded a film clearly aiming to be both a domestic smash and an international crossover hit — buoyed by the reliable star power of Ricardo Darín, his signature suaveness tempered by a walrus mustache and boxy ‘80s frames as Julio Strassera, the dogged prosecutor who took on this charged, against-the-odds case. Though a warmly received premiere in competition at Venice will set it on the right path, “Argentina, 1985” is, appropriately enough, a people’s film about people’s justice, balancing tear-jerking historical catharsis with touches of droll domestic comedy, and set to draw crowds on enthusiastic word of mouth.
