The sun was shining in Paisley for Woodside Cemetery & Crematorium’s event on Tuesday, May 31 in association with their charity partner, Alzheimer’s Scotland. The event aimed to educate and raise awareness of this illness and to provide help and support for local families who may be affected by Dementia. The day also included a tour of Woodside’s beautiful memorial gardens and culminated with a ‘Tea and Blether’ session back at the newly renovated Martyr’s Chapel.
‘Dementia Awareness Week’ runs from May 30 to June 5, and this was one of many events that were organised around the country to support people living with Dementia in Scotland.
As well as presentations from Alzheimer’s Scotland, the event also included two interesting talks from clinical experts from The University of West of Scotland. The experts shared some of the research that is being carried out at their campus as well as some of the different clinical trials that are being undertaken to investigate into a cure for the brain decease.
At the event, Woodside were delighted to present Alzheimer’s Scotland with a donation of £4,154.92 to support their vital work caring for individuals and families affected.
The funds were generated through Woodside Crematorium’s metal recycling scheme which was established last year. This donation follows on from Woodside’s previous donation from the scheme which was over £7,000. With permission from families, the scheme sees materials reclaimed from the cremators such as coffin fixtures and other common items such as medical screws and pins.
A common practice amongst crematoriums across the UK, the recycling scheme will allow Woodside to continue generating even more funds for local charities in the future.
