MGMT will release new music this year, says Andrew VanWyngarden

MGMT are set to return with new music this year, according to frontman Andrew VanWyngarden. The New York-based duo last released an album with 2018’s ‘Little Dark Age’, which NME named one of the best albums of that year, writing: “After more than a decade of insularity, MGMT have thrown open the doors and welcomed you back into their world. Talk Show share feisty new song ‘Leather’ from ‘Touch The Ground’ EP

Talk Show have shared an energetic new song called ‘Leather’, taken from upcoming EP ‘Touch The Ground’.The London quartet’s new EP is set to come out on September 23 via Missing Piece, and is produced by Hot Chip duo Joe Goddard and Al Doyle.Speaking about the new track, frontman Harrison Swann said: “[Drummer] Chloe [MacGregor] took the lead on this one bringing a big breakbeat style drum part, and we just ran with it.“Vocally it felt natural to sit back and let the other parts sit more at the front. With the sharp guitar and heavy bass lines, we didn’t wanna compete with each other, so it helped having small repeating phrases, fitting in the gaps. We were trying to build an atmosphere, something dynamic, rather than tell a story.”Swann added: “We wanted something that had a bit of bite to it, that was really gonna show what we’d actually been listening to for inspiration.

The rise of PinkPantheress last year is one of those rare instances where describing someone as an "overnight success" is actually quite accurate. Pixies have shared the latest preview of their forthcoming eighth album, ‘Doggerel’ – an equally smoky and melodic cut of alt-rock titled ‘Vault Of Heaven’ – announcing with it a short run of US tour dates. The song itself features an allusion to a bad drug trip and copious references to 7-Eleven, as Black Francis (aka Frank Black) sings in the first verse: “There in the vault of heaven / While trying to titrate / I ended up in… / Another case. I went to 7-Eleven / To try and get me straight / I ended up there… / In outer space.”‘Vault Of Heaven’ arrives alongside a suitably wacky music video, directed by Charles Derenne.
