Alan Shearer believes Ruud van Nistelrooy was one of the best finishers the Premier League had ever seen.
Former Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy enjoyed five excellent seasons leading the line for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, netting 95 goals in 150 Premier League appearances. In only one campaign (2004/2005) did the Dutchman fail to reach 20 and that was mainly due to reduced appearances.
Shearer is arguably the best striker in English top-flight history and the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer, having netted an incredible 260 times. He identified Van Nistelrooy among the best 'first season stars' over the last 31 years and reserved high praise for the ex-United man.

“One of the best finishers we’ve seen in Premier League history,” Shearer told the Match Of The Day Top 10 podcast. “He was an out-and-out goalscorer.
"Positional wise, superb. I think it was, what, £19million from PSV? Didn’t win the title in his first season, but he was an outstanding goalscorer.”
Van Nistelrooy's arrival at United was delayed by a year after concerns over his fitness, given the striker hadn't played for a month due to problems with his knee. The move was cancelled when PSV refused additional medical tests and just days later, the Dutchman ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
He eventually arrived at Old Trafford a year later and exploded onto the scene, netting 23 goals in 32 Premier League appearances. Despite being so prolific for Ferguson's side over five years, he only won one top-flight league title, one FA Cup and one League Cup.
