Alan Carr has revealed he plans to take a break from showbiz following his split from partner Paul Drayton earlier this year. Speaking exclusively to OK! last week, the 46-year-old comedy king - who is soon set to star in his brand new Channel 4 documentary Adventures With Agatha Christie - admitted he hopes to "have some time with myself" after he and his former beau of 14 years announced in January that they'd parted ways. "I've never been so bloody busy," he tells us, discussing his ongoing Regional Trinket comedy tour.
"It’s great because it means I’m always moving and have got lots of things distracting me and things to look forward to. "But next year I’m going to put me first. I’m going to take a break and just have some time with myself." Catching up with Lorraine Kelly earlier this year, the Chatty Man star revealed that the couple's marriage broke down during the Coronavirus pandemic but that he wasn't dwelling and instead was looking ahead to the future.
"I wrote the tour, and then our marriage broke down during Covid, because it was so stressful, everything. And then I was going on stage and I was just like, 'Well this doesn't make sense, this doesn't make sense'." "So we're divorced now, he's excited about the future, I'm excited about the future. We're still always going to be friends because we've been through so much together." Following the split, Paul posted on Instagram that he was in rehab for alcoholism, after a "challenging couple of years" which saw him plead guilty to a drink-driving charge.
