Puppies suffering with worms just a few months old were found running loose on a Scots road amid fears they were abandoned.
The three male crossbreeds were found on a country road in Carlops, a small village in the Pentland Hills, around 6.30pm on Tuesday October 4. A member of the public who described them on social media as being "pretty hungry".
The puppies, who are estimated to be around 15-16 weeks old, were taken to the nearest house where they found. The occupants were not the owners but agreed to look after the dogs until the SSPCA arrived.
The Scottish SPCA said they couldn't confirm whether the dogs had been abandoned or managed to escape but blasted those who may have given them up and appealed for information.
SSPCA inspector Emma Phillips said: “We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal and these dogs would have been caused a great amount of distress.
“They are all crossbreeds.
“The puppies were not in the best of condition and, upon further inspection, have been found to have worms.
“Thankfully the boys are now safe and being cared for by one of our rescue and rehoming centres.
“We are urging anyone who recognises these puppies or has any information to please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
