Academy Awards 2021: Viola Davis is now the most nominated Black actress in Oscars history

Viola Davis‘ latest photoshoot was a family affair! The Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star, 55, posed with her nine-year-old daughter, Genesis Tennon for a very special cover of W Magazine. This was Viola and Genesis’ first mother-daughter magazine cover, and most certainly not their last. The ladies shined on the cover, part of a photo essay helmed by friend Regina King in The Directors Issue.

The 2021 NAACP Image Awards crowned DJ D-Nice, who hosted hit socially distanced dance parties during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, with its top honor of Entertainer of the Year in an evening that featured numerous references to the coronavirus crisis. There were also numerous references to voter suppression and the role of Black people in the results of the 2020 election, including helping Democrats flip the Senate with the wins of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in Georgia.

Hollywood veteran Viola Davis, who will be essaying the role of Michelle Obama in the Showtime series, The First Lady, recently opened up about her experience portraying the character.

Viola Davis made a virtual appearance on Friday’s edition of “The Tonight Show”, and admitting some trepidation about her latest role: portraying Michelle Obama in Showtime limited series “The First Lady”, which has also cast Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford.
