'Absolutely heartbreaking': Popular Indian restaurant announces sudden closure

A popular Indian restaurant which donated meal vouchers to schools and supported the NHS during the lockdown has announced its closure after 12 years due to the cost of living crisis.
Zing and Zest, on Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne, has been in operation since 2012 and has a four star rating on TripAdvisor, with people raving over its 'flavoursome' food and 'attentive' service. Alongside serving popular Indian dishes throughout the week, it also served an all-you-can-eat buffet on Sunday's.
But in a statement on social media, co-owner Habibi Rahman said it had been a ‘difficult’ decision to close the restaurant but one that had been made in the face of rising energy and trading costs.

Habibi thanked the restaurant’s ‘invaluable’ customers, who supported them over the years. The statement began: "First and foremost, we want to express our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to each and every one of our customers and friends who has walked through our doors for dining in and takeaways in the past 12 years of our business. Enjoyed our company and culinary creations, supported us throughout the years in thick and thin.
“Your friendship, loyalty and patronage have been INVALUABLE to us, and we are truly humbled by the connections we have formed along the way in them years, and it has been a pleasure of being at your service.
"While it saddens us to bid farewell, the cost risen in energy prices and cost risen in all other sectors of the trade, it has been very difficult for us to survive and continue trading.”
