Aaron Ramsey has opened up on the transfer tug of war between Arsenal and Manchester United for his signature back in 2008.
The Welsh midfielder broke into the first-team at Cardiff City as a 17-year-old, featuring regularly during the second half of their Championship campaign. He caught the eye of top Premier League clubs during an impressive 2-1 FA Cup win over Middlesbrough, with Sir Alex Ferguson making early contact over a potential summer move.
But United were not the only team eyeing the promising teenager, with Arsenal and Everton also interested. Ramsey had met officials from all three clubs before deciding to join the Gunners in a deal worth £4.8million.

Arsenal and United were the two front-runners for a deal and the midfielder has now revealed he often spoke with both iconic managers, Arsene Wenger and Ferguson.
"I was always a Cardiff supporter, but my dad was a Manchester United fan and I watched them quite a lot with him," Ramsey told FourFourTwo. "It was a strange time in my life, to have two teams I’d watched so much as a child showing interest in me.
"I spoke to both managers on the phone a few times. I was 17 years old and I was getting voicemails from Fergie and Arsene Wenger! It was mad.
"Arsenal felt like the right decision for me. I remember showing up to training on my first day and seeing Kolo Toure, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor, William Gallas... I had to pinch myself. I was like, ‘What on Earth am I doing here?’ It was an exciting time for me."
Ramsey would go on to spend 11 years at Arsenal, playing 369 times for the north
