A grandad says he feared for his life as a stranger pointed a 'gun' at him and opened fire in broad daylight. Vincent Regan heard a 'clicking sound' when the man pulled the trigger of the suspected firearm.
Fortunately, nothing left the barrel and the 61-year-old was unhurt. Armed cops later shot the suspect with a plastic round.
The man was taken down by officers following the incident in Bolton on Thursday morning (August 10). The 'vulnerable' suspect was detained and a weapon recovered. The Manchester Evening News understands experts will assess if the firearm was real or viable.
Vincent said he was left terrified. He said he was sitting on a wall at the memorial gardens in Horwich, at around 8.30am when the drama unfolded.

"I sit on there every day," he said. "I was talking to my wife on the phone. The next minute a guy comes and sits on the bench shouting abuse at me."
"Do you want to see my f*****g gun?," the man told Vincent. He added: "He had a rucksack with him and he tipped it out and pulled this gun out.
"I don't know anything about guns and have never seen a real one before. It just looked like a gun to me - a silver handgun.
"Then he pulled the clip in the handle out which holds the bullets, I think they call it the magazine. He said 'feel the weight of this', but I told him 'no' and said I wasn't interested. I thought 'I better get out of here'.
"But he put it back in, pointed it at me, towards my head and shot it twice. Nothing hit me it just made a clicking sound, but he was only eight feet or so away from me. I have never, ever been scared before, but I was scared. If it had been loaded, I'd be dead
