“Succession” to place multiple nominees in the acting categories: Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin and Matthew McFadyen have all been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the last two seasons, while last year’s guest categories included four actors and three actresses from the HBO series. The Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, meanwhile, has found both Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong nominated for the past two seasons. But this year, with Cox’s character dying in the third episode, Culkin moved from the supporting into the lead category, where he’ll be vying for a nomination alongside Strong and Cox (who opted to remain in lead even though his character is physically missing from most of the season). All three are considered among the favorites to be nominated – but to have three lead actors nominated for the same show would be unprecedented.
Shows have landed two nominees in the category plenty of times, with “Succession,” “This Is Us,” “Westworld” and “True Detective” combining to do it seven times in the last nine years. But three nominations in a lead acting category has never been done before in drama; the only time series performers have hogged a lead category to that degree is in Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, where “Golden Girls” did it four times between 1986 and 1989 and “Desperate Housewives” did it once in 2005.The Emmy rules were also changed this year, ending the ability of voters to mark their ballots for an unlimited number of contenders.
Instead, they’ll be restricted to six choices in categories that have six nominees, as this one does. That could discourage them from giving half their votes to one show, though it’s risky to underestimate an Emmy

the same thing hadn’t happened last year. Viewership for the soapy Western drama far outstrips anything else on cable or broadcast, but perhaps the ongoing alleged “feud” between series star Kevin Costner and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan — the latter of the reported “God complex” — had supporters on both sides whispering to each other to slag off the other guy this time around.
HBO had another great Emmy nomination morning with big hauls for series such as Succession, The Last Of Us, The White Lotus and Barry.

The series was the cornerstone of HBO’s total tally of 127 nominations, including shows that also ran on the streamer previously known as HBO Max (now just Max). Netflix weighed in with 103 mentions. “Succession” raked in 27 bids, including a history-making troika of noms in the lead actor drama category for Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong. Last year the series grabbed 25 nominations and went all the way to take the top prize for drama series. Marvel fans got their first look at Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return via Deadpool 3 on Monday, as Ryan Reynolds took to his Instagram stories with a new still from the film. In it, Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth is seen walking with a super-suited Wolverine in black and yellow.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Hugh Jackman promised fans that his return as Wolverine in the upcoming “Deadpool 3” would not screw with “Logan,” the 2017 “X-Men” tentpole that brought an end to the superhero’s movie arc by killing him off. It appears Jackman was telling the truth, as a first look at “Deadpool 3” shared on Jackman and co-star Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram finds Wolverine sporting his classic yellow and blue costume from the comic books. This appears not to be the iteration of Wolverine that Jackman previously brought to the screen as the superhero has never worn this costume on the big screen before. “Deadpool 3” is currently in production. The film is being helmed by Shawn Levy, who last directed Reynolds in “Free Guy” and the Netflix tentpole “The Adam Project.” Not much is known about the film’s plot, but it clearly involves the multiverse as Deadpool joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time after a string of solo movies produced under Fox.
Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer Teeing up an inevitable “sai-ke” pun for Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as the sai-wielding superhero Elektra in Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool 3.” Hugh Jackman is also reprising his performance as Wolverine for the movie, which is rapidly becoming a multiverse mash-up of bygone non-MCU Marvel movie characters. Garner first originated the role of Elektra Natchios in 2003’s “Daredevil” with Ben Affleck, which was a modest hit, and returned to headline 2005’s “Elektra,” which flopped. In 2021, Garner told the Hollywood Reporter that she wished both of those films had been produced by Kevin Feige as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over everything there was elevated: the writing, the direction, the comedy inside of the stories they were telling,” she said. “And I did not have that experience.” Most recently, Garner starred in and executive produced the limited series “The Last Thing He Told Me” for Apple TV+.
