Millions of households across Great Britain are set to receive the next instalment of the £900 cost of living payment support, worth £300 this Autumn, with a further £299 due next Spring. No confirmed details about a payment window or the qualifying period have been announced by the UK Government yet, despite widespread online speculation.
MPs will return to Parliament today and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is scheduled to answer oral questions in the House of Commons after 2.30pm. This could see opposition MPs raise questions on the £300 cost of living payments, or an update given by DWP on when people can expect to receive the extra financial support.
While we won’t speculate on any payment windows or potential qualifying periods, there are a few things that are known, such as which benefits will be eligible and how thousands of people over State Pension age still have time to qualify for the £300 and £299 one-off lump sums.
So far this financial year, some 8.3million cost of living payments for £301 were made in May and June to people in receipt of a qualifying means-tested benefit from the DWP or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). At the end of June and beginning of July, a further 6.4m payments for £150 were made to people claiming disability benefits.
