A large group of Venezuelans expelled from the United States and sent to Mexico under a new Homeland Security policy protested at the border Friday, causing officials to briefly close an international bridge leading to Texas. The protesters gathered in Matamoros, Mexico, which sits across from Brownsville, Texas. A military couple is picking up the pieces after all of their belongings were stolen overnight while staying in an Oregon hotel last week. Gustavo Burciaga and his wife Jennifer Luna were in the process of moving from Joint Base Lewis–McChord in Washington state to Albuquerque, N.M., when the burglary took place, Fox 10 Phoenix reported. An Indiana man accused of smuggling three migrants crashed his car during a high-speed chase in Uvalde County recently, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Richard Diaz, 21, allegedly told police that he was being paid $3,000 per person to smuggle the migrants from the border community of Eagle Pass to San Antonio.  He was charged with two counts of human smuggling causing serious bodily injury, Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez told Fox News Digital.  The driver sped off during an apparent traffic stop in Uvalde County, Texas.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Dashcam footage shows the driver accelerate away from an apparent traffic stop at night. A federal appeals court ordered a review of new changes by the Biden administration to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The decision was made by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday, which said that a Texas federal judge needs to review the program after several changes were made by the Biden administration in August.

A Democratic candidate for Congress from New Mexico is looking to walk back recently unearthed comments he previously made indicating he supported ending oil and gas extraction "immediately."  Gabe Vasquez, a former city council member of Las Cruces, New Mexico, said in 2018 he agreed with environmentalists who sought to get rid of oil and gas extraction "immediately" in favor of renewable energy.  As the November midterm elections approach, Vasquez has recently called the oil and gas industry "incredibly important to this district" not just for the extraction companies themselves, but for the small businesses that support the fossil fuel industry. Alec Baldwin and the production company of ill-fated movie Rust have reached a settlement with the estate of killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
