Speakers will include such artists from this year’s program as La Guerra Civil director Eva Longoria Bastón, Dual star Karen Gillan, Cha Cha Real Smooth and Am I OK? star Dakota Johnson, Alice star Keke Palmer and Lucy & Desi director Amy Poehler.
Beyond Film events will range from artist talks to daily meetups and immersive experiences. Additional programming will include the daily talk show How to Fest: Daily; a solo performance by multiple Emmy–winning artist, Lynette Wallworth; a sneak peek at the film Oscar’s Comeback about Black film pioneer Oscar Micheaux and a conversation with its directors; Artist Spotlights with XR/VR/new media creators showing work in the New Frontier section; a talk centered on the climate crisis, and more.
The in-person, Park City component of this year’s festival was canceled recently for the second year in a row, due to safety concerns amid the Covid surge. The fest will now take place virtually via this online platform, and on the bespoke immersive platform The Spaceship, with in-person screenings and festival conversations still to take place at seven satellite venues across the country during its second weekend.

The 2022 virtual edition of the Sundance Film Festival is in full swing, and among the films making a debt at this year’s fest is “Dual”, a dark comedy starring Karen Gillan (“Doctor Who”, “Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”).
At first glance, actor-writer-director Cooper Raiff’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth” might look like your typical cutesy and whimsical Sundance dramedy, about a twenty-something college graduate learning a valuable life lesson and experiencing a bit of a delayed coming of age. While that’s not an inaccurate description of Raiff’s disarmingly lovely film (programmed in this year’s US Dramatic Competition), what feels miraculous about “Cha Cha” is: it doesn’t come with even an ounce of that cringe-inducing Sundance fancifulness, a brand that many love to hate.
Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaRLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has taken all U.S. rights to “Dual,” a sci-fi film about cloning with Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul, in a low to mid seven figure deal. XYZ Films, CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group closed the deal with RLJE Films last night in a competitive bidding situation following the film’s Sundance premiere.
“Dual,” the latest film from director Riley Stearns that stars Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul, has sold its U.S. rights to RLJE Films, a division of AMC Networks, for a deal that landed in the low to mid 7-figure range.

Martin and Johnson then came into view, with Martin throwing a peace sign before exiting the room.It was a rare sighting of the couple, who have been dating since 2017, and followed Johnson recently addressing the relationship in an interview with ELLE UK.“We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private,” she said, before adding that “most of the partying takes place inside my house”.Meanwhile, last November Johnson said that Alfred Hitchcock “terrorised” her grandmother Tippi Hedren and “ruined her career”.Hedren worked with the director in the early 1960s on The Birds And Marnie, and claimed in her 2016 memoir that Hitchcock sexually assaulted her a number of times.Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast, The Lost Daughter actress was asked whether Hedren was encouraging of her going into the same industry.
Dakota Johnson is having a big year. Not only is she part of one of the season’s big awards contenders in “The Lost Daughter,” but she’s also just debuted her company's first two films at the Sundance Film Festival, “AM I OK?” and “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” which she produced and stars in, too.The projects are quite different: In “AM I OK?” she plays a character in her early 30s in Los Angeles who is questioning her sexuality and figuring out who she is and wants to be, and in “Cha Cha Real Smooth” she’s the young mother to a teenage daughter who is autistic, who develops a unique relationship with a 22-year-old played by the film’s writer-director, Cooper Raiff. Both films are seeking a distributor.Johnson spoke to The Associated Press about this new phase in her career and the benefits of being a producer.
Chris Martin to the rescue! The 44-year-old Coldplay frontman helped out girlfriend Dakota Johnson when her video call wasn't working during a virtual event for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. The 32-year-old actress was scheduled to chat about her film, , but when programmer Charlie Sextro introduced her, he was met with silence for several seconds. When Johnson did eventually pop up on screen she wasn't solo, but rather giggling next to Martin who'd presumably gotten her technology to work. Martin didn't stick around for the discussion, quickly flashing a peace sign at the camera as he dashed out of the room. The rare sighting of the private couple came less than a month after Johnson spoke about her relationship during an interview with .«We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private,» she said, before adding that «most of the partying takes place inside my house.»After Johnson and Martin were linked in 2018, Johnson told that she was «not going to talk about» her romance, adding, «But I am very happy.»The two went on to make a rare public appearance in September 2019 at a charity event.
Chris Martin has Dakota Johnson's back. The 44-year-old Coldplay frontman has been dating Johnson, 32, since 2017, and the two have maintained a relatively private romance — though fans got a peek into their home life on Sunday during the Sundance Film Festival. Among the festival's lineup on Sunday was a virtual discussion with the team behind the film "Cha Cha Real Smooth," which debuted at the festival, featuring Johnson, Cooper Raiff and Vanessa Burghardt.
“There is no timeline to figuring this out,” Jane tells her best friend Lucy in Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne’s directorial debut feature film “AM I OK?” This is a film for late bloomers of any kind but will resonate particularly with anyone who came into their sexual identity later in life. Screenwriter Lauren Pomerantz (“Me, Myself and I”) took inspiration from her own late in life, coming out and close relationship with her best friend, producer Jessica Elbaum (“Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” “Hustlers”).
