Yellowcard pursuing $15 million lawsuit against Juice WRLD despite his death

A $300 million lawsuit over Miley Cyrus' 2013 single "We Can't Stop" has finally reached a settlement, according to Rolling Stone. Back in 2018, Jamaican songwriter Michal May, who performs under the name Flourgon, filed a lawsuit against Cyrus and her label RCA records over the single, which he claims used parts of his 1988 song "We Run Things."

Chicago rapper Juice WRLD passed away earlier this month at just 21 years old, and while the exact circumstances of his death are still being determined, his family’s statement about the rapper’s struggle with prescription drug abuse has once again sparked a conversation about drugs and rap music. Juice’s fellow Windy City native Vic Mensa weighed in during a recent TMZ interview, saying hip-hop is responsible for glorifying drug use.

Pop punk band Yellowcard is moving forward with its $15 million lawsuit against late rapper Juice WRLD over his breakout single, “Lucid Dreams.” According to documents obtained by XXL on December 17, the now-defunct group filed a motion to extend the amount of time that representatives for the Chicago native and his co-named defendants have to respond to the original complaint.

Tribute posts have been flooding social media from those who got to know Juice WRLD or were just impacted by his music from afar before his death. Nearly 10 days later, Lil Bibby, a mentor of Juice's and an executive at the Grade A Productions label he was signed to, broke his silence Tuesday (Dec. 17) with a heartbreaking post eulogizing his late friend. 

Although Lil Pump took the stage at the Los Angeles edition of Rolling Loud over the weekend, fans didn’t hear one of his biggest hits: “Drug Addicts.” Setlist.fm shows that he’s often played the song at recent shows, but a report from TMZ claims he left it out of his Rolling Loud set in light of the recent death of Chicago rapper Juice WRLD.
