X Factor singer Lucy Spraggan has paid a lovely tribute to late TV presenter Caroline Flack. Lucy, 32, has dedicated a song on her new album to the former Love Island host. Lucy appeared on the former ITV programme in 2012, and at the time Caroline was the host of spin-off show, The Xtra Factor.
In 2020, Caroline tragically took her own life at the age of 40, and her death hit Lucy particularly hard. On Friday, the Tea and Toast singer released her seventh album, which includes a song named Caroline that was written in memory of her friend. Lucy admitted that following her passing, she had been left wondering what more could have been done to prevent her sad death.
Speaking to Sky News, Lucy said: "I remember hearing that she had died and just being so overwhelmed. "I wondered what protocols and what procedures were in place to help somebody who quite clearly needed help at that time." Lucy has always been open in talking about mental health and, she is now pitching a mental health pension for stars in the spotlight. Speaking to The Mirror, she explained that she believes that access to mental health support should be industry standard for TV contestants and staff.
She told the publication: "If the TV companies acknowledge they need to support people going forward, they also need to acknowledge they should support people from the past. "And they need to care about producers and crew too, not just contestants." Lucy also opened up about the song Caroline, as she said that she wants the song to stay in people's minds. She said: "My song Caroline was the first one I wrote on the album.
