While watching the thrilling Killing Eve series it is difficult to imagine someone as psychotic as Villanelle actually exists, but apparently the character is inspired by a real-life assassin.
According to author Luke Jennings who wrote the Villanelle crime series, which the BBC series is based on, the main character is based on a woman called Idoia López Riaño.
Idoia is otherwise known as La Tigresa, and was jailed for her involvement in the Basque separatist group, ETA.
