Ten Hag, as he has done on occasions in recent weeks, started with Rashford as a striker, with Wout Weghorst playing in a deeper role behind the England ace. However, the 25-year-old struggled to impact the game and found it difficult up against Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
Former United and Liverpool forward Owen admitted he was unsure about the team selection - suggesting that the in-form Rashford should have been competing with Trent Alexander-Arnold instead.
"One question I would have would be team selection," Owen told Premier League Productions. "There's one position on that pitch before today's game that everybody thinks, 'wow, this could be the match-winning area'.
