A young woman who was kept 'prisoner' and forced into sex work fled a brothel and flagged down police in a bid for freedom.
The woman 'had no freedom of movement', 'no financial independence' and was paid just £100 of the £1,000 she earnt in a day, Hull Live reports. A court heard how she 'feared the man who controlled her' - later to be revealed as Gheorge Bonculescu.
Bonculescu wouldn't let her leave and 'coerced her into seeing many customers'. After escaping a brothel when she 'couldn't take anymore', the victim told officers at a local police station she had been trafficked and forced into prostitution.

Hull Crown Court heard how she had at first agreed to work in the sex industry to make money. But she would earn up to £1,000 in a day and was given just £100, as well as food, cocaine and clothes.
Bonculescu, 27, and his sister-in-law, Elena Birovescu, also 27, were both originally charged with arranging or facilitating the travel of a woman with a view to exploiting her, in Hull, but that charge was dropped. Bonculescu admitted controlling or causing prostitution for gain and Birovescu admitted a money laundering offence of acquiring criminal property.
Michele Stuart-Lofthouse, prosecuting, said that a woman approached British Transport Police at Hull Paragon station in 2022 and said that she had just escaped from a brothel in Hull. She claimed that she had been trafficked and had been forced into prostitution.
She and others were living in flats and apartments and were providing sexual services from premises in Hull. During that time, she became addicted to cocaine and smoking.
