A woman has been left devastated after Royal Mail lost a sentimental reminder of her late mum. Kayleigh Evan's mother, Christine Evans, sadly passed away from coronavirus in December 2021, aged 62, Wales Online reports.
As a tribute to her memory, Kayleigh, from Swansea, decided that she wanted to send a gift containing some of her mum's ashes to her auntie, Christine's only sister. She posted a silver pendant necklace to her relative's home in Colchester on September 21, but later discovered the jewellery had gone missing in the mail.
The distressed woman has since been in contact with Royal Mail about the incident, but has been left with nowhere to turn after the postal service told her they cannot locate the gift. Kayleigh says the whole experience has left the family "mortified" and they are "devastated" about losing some of their beloved mum's ashes.
"Royal Mail hasn’t got a clue where the necklace and the ashes are," said Kayleigh. "They keep saying they just can’t find it. Obviously, my auntie is mortified. She's devastated. She was saying ‘that’s my sister, Kayleigh!’, but what can I do?"
Kayleigh decided to get some of the ashes encased in the pendant which read "Your wings sister were ready but your heart was not" as a gift for her mother's only sibling. She claims she posted it first class on September 21, however, as of October 25 - and countless phone calls with Royal Mail - the package still hasn't been located.
"They’ve [Royal Mail] just said they don’t know where it is. They blamed it on the strike first of all, I just really don’t know. It’s just been lost. They’ve said there’s nothing they can do."
