A year ago, no one really knew who Lil Nas X was.
It seems hard to believe, given how omnipresent his genre-defying, chart-topping hit "Old Town Road" had been throughout much of 2019, but it's true. If you'd said the name out loud in the waning weeks of 2018, the people around you might've looked at you funny and assumed you'd mistakenly combined the names of a few other rappers. But that was then and this is now.
And now, Lil Nas X holds a place in the history books.

In October 2019, Lil Nas X, along with collaborators including Cardi B, faced a copyright infringement lawsuit over his 2019 song “Rodeo.” The lawsuit, filed by producers Don Lee and Glen Keith, claimed that his song shared similarities with their 2017 work “gwenXdonlee4-142,” which was later incorporated into the song “Broad Day” by PuertoReefa and Sakrite Duexe.
