The first trailer to actress Daisy Edgar-Jones’ eagerly-anticipated film Where the Crawdads Sing was released on Tuesday, promising a haunting treat for viewers. Based on the 2018 bestselling novel of the same title by Delia Owens, the upcoming adaptation features the Normal People star in a completely different setting to that of Dublin, Ireland, she was seen in the BBC series.The film, produced by Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine, takes place in North Carolina and follows character Kya played by Daisy — who sports a convincing southern accent in the clip — as she is left to fend for herself after she’s deserted by her family.

Kya chooses not to go to school, despite the social worker's attempts, and instead learns the rules of life through her surroundings outdoors, developing a deep connection to nature. While elements of the plot are considerably different to that of Daisy’s most well-known show to date Normal People, the trailer suggests similar themes of love as Daisy’s character is seen getting close to a town neighbour at one point.
It is shown, however, that events take a turn for the worse as a murder in the area occurs, which Kya is accused of committing as she is seen going on trial. The movie adaptation of the novel looks to be quite the departure from what fans of Daisy have seen her in so far, which the actress acknowledged speaking of the role after she was cast in 2020.
