Kevin McGarry is opening up about Nathan’s arc in the new season of When Calls The Heart.
The 36-year-old actor, who plays Mountie Nathan Grant in Hallmark’s long-running series, spoke to Media Village about what’s ahead for him, following a three season long love triangle.

“He had a very tumultuous season eight,” Kevin told the outlet about Nathan. “Of course, there’s gonna be things in season nine that throw him for a loop. But, as with any good character, and any fun character to play, he learns from his mistakes and might come at them differently than he did two seasons ago.”
He added that Nathan is still just coming off a love triangle with Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Lucas (Chris McNally).
“For sure he still cares about Elizabeth. I don’t think that’s ever going to go away, but does it turn into anything later? Who knows? You gotta tune in,” he teased. “There will always be a spot in his heart for Elizabeth, and in the beginning he’s accepting of the situation.”
As for a possible love story of his own, he says that Nathan isn’t “actively open and looking for anybody to move on with, but if it happens, it happens. I think his focus is now on [his niece] Allie, keeping the town safe and all those things that challenge him throughout season nine. We’ll see people coming into the town trying to push it in one way and he has to take a stand.”
Hallmark has been hinting at a possible romance between Nathan and newcomer Mei Suo, played by Amanda Wong.
An all-new When Calls The Heart airs tonight, Sunday, March 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel. Meet the full cast of the show here!
