So reads the logline for new LGBTQ+ coming-of-age comedy drama Heartstopper, which is set to land on Netflix tomorrow (Friday, April 22). The eight-part series is based on the bestselling graphic novels from Alice Oseman, which first found popularity as a Tumblr web comic.
Its online audience has been patiently waiting for the story to make the jump to the screen - after Netflix confirmed it had started production on the show in January 2021. A trailer released earlier this month has given an insight into the series - with many already praising it for its LGBTQ+ representation.

The synopsis from Netflix reads: “When gentle Charlie and rugby-loving Nick meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.”
In the trailer, we see Charlie and Nick meet in class and their awkward meetings in the school corridors. Charlie’s friend tells him that Nick is ‘the straightest person I have ever seen’.
Then Charlie is shown asking a teacher: “How do I stop liking someone? Specifically, a straight guy.”
The heartwarming trailer continues by showing the trials and tribulations for two teenage boys who are developing romantic feelings towards one another.
