A beloved great-granny has marked her 100th birthday surrounded by her family.
Janet MacQueen - known as Jenny - celebrated her special day at Woodlands Nursing Home in Livingston with her loved ones, some who had travelled from England to see her.
Janet was born on March 24, 1924, in Torphichen and after marrying husband John in 1947, the couple stayed in Shotts, Selkirk and Peebleshire before moving to Livingston in 1976 when John gave up farming.
The couple had three children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Before retiring, Janet worked in the Land Army during the war and later was a bus conductor and worked at the Old Mill Inn in Blythe and McVities in Livingston.
Before retiring, John, who sadly passed away in 1998, worked laterally as a street sweeper for the council which he enjoyed as he was happiest outdoors.
Janet’s youngest son, also John, said his mum is “fiercely independent” and only moved into a nursing home two years ago after she broke her leg.
He said: “She always has some cheeky words for me about how she doesn’t need to be in the nursing home.
“Unfortunately she’s now lost her sight but is fiercely independent.
“She always loved knitting but laterally enjoyed walking to Livingston Centre, which she would do two or three times a day, just to get out of the house so she wasn’t sitting on her own.
“My sister took her up to Asda as well and they had a wee party for her because she used to go there all the time.
“She especially knew the security guards well.”
And John said when staff asked her what the secret was to her long and healthy life she quipped: “Just having one man!”
