Neighbours on a quiet east Manchester estate have recalled the desperate attempts made to save a man who was 'hit by his own car'. Police believe 57-year-old Chris Hanley died on Olympic Street, in Beswick, after trying to stop his Land Rover being stolen on Saturday morning (March 16).
Emergency services rushed out to the estate, in the shadow of Sportcity, where he was sadly pronounced dead at around 10.54am. A murder investigation is underway, with police continuing door-to-door enquiries this afternoon (Monday).
One Olympic Street resident told the Manchester Evening News she found the victim injured 'on the floor' while two people tried to save him. "I was just coming back home," she said.

"I saw two guys on the other side of the road. He was on the floor, they were trying to do CPR on him. Within minutes the ambulance arrived. I don't know what had happened. I found him on the floor.
"First of all we were told it was a hit-and-run, and then they said somebody had tried to steal the car. It's just a traumatic situation."
Within moments, police had cordoned off the scene. One resident told the M.E.N.: "We were all shocked. We just thought it was a hit-and-run, but the police were adamant, they said it was a murder inquiry. It's always quiet here, always quiet. It's just fortunate no kids were playing out."
A forensic tent was seen at the end of Olympic Street, where it meets Holly Street. Two bunches of flowers had been placed at the junction this afternoon, hours before Chris had been named as the victim.
Multiple neighbours told the M.E.N. they did not recognise Chris or the Land Rover involved in the incident. A Holly Street

Aramide Tinubu There has been no shortage of television series centering the horrors of the Holocaust. Last year alone, Netflix’s “Transatlantic” depicted a group of resistors living in Marseille, and National Geographic’s “A Small Light” offered a retelling of Anne Frank’s experience through the eyes of Miep Gies, the woman who aided the Franks during their years in hiding. Though both of these series and those like them are important, Hulu‘s “We Were the Lucky Ones,” an adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s best-selling novel based on a true story, showcases something different.

Katcy Stephan It’s been four years since The Avenue first launched, and the indie distributor just scored its first top 10 film with William Eubank’s “Land of Bad.” The action flick starring Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle and Milo Ventimiglia opened on Feb. 16, had the fourth-highest per screen average over the holiday weekend and was the only independent film in the top 10.
