Watch Live: Oprah Winfrey Delivers Commencement Speech for Facebook Graduation Event

Oprah Winfrey on Friday broke her silence about the killing ofGeorge Floyd, assuring his death would not be in vain. In a statement posted to social media, which included an illustration ofFloyd,Winfrey said she has not said anything until this moment about the events that transpired Monday inMinnesota because she was having a hard time processing what she saw: a black man, held down by police officers as one white officer knelt on his neck.Floyd would die from his injuries.

Globally, more than 5.8 million cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, more than 2.4 million have recovered from the disease while over 359,000 people have lost their lives battling the deadly virus.

Facebook and Instagram on Friday celebrated the Class of 2020 with a graduation event streaming on both social media platforms. Oprah Winfrey delivered the commencement speech, while many top names were in attendance — via video feed — such as Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, Lil Nas X and Miley Cyrus, who performed an emotional track for the occasion.

Oprah Winfrey has encouraged graduates from the Class of 2020 to embrace new roles as leaders and “step into the unknown”.

Oprah Winfrey, who visited arenas earlier this year on a wellness tour, is bringing the idea to living rooms while people are homebound due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Oprah Winfrey was among the stars who surprised fans when she stopped by John Krasinski’s popular web series Some Good News (SGN) on Sunday (May 3, 2020), as he was hosting a virtual graduation for the Class of 2020.

John Krasinski surprised graduates from the class of 2020 with the opportunity to ask questions of Steven Spielberg, Jon Stewart, Oprah Winfrey and Malala Yousafzai during the latest episode of Some Good News. Krasinski first had a chat with several graduating students via a Zoom call and also allowed several to give their graduation "speech." He then surprised four of them by allowing them to ask questions of the aforementioned quartet of famous faces.

Oprah Winfrey keeps updated with the coronavirus news, but she has often focused her attention more on the positive "acts of valor" while being on lockdown during the pandemic. The media mogul said Friday evening that she wants people to digest daily information wisely during the Call to Unite livestream global relief event.

Oprah will be the commencement speaker and Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, Lil Nas X and Simone Biles will offer words of wisdom to the Class of 2020 in a multi-hour graduation streaming event on Facebook and Instagram on May 15. The #Graduation2020 event will be broadcast on Facebook Watch, with some segments posted to the @instagram account on Instagram, along with the social media accounts of the contributors, according to the announcement Tuesday.
