The Walking Dead favourite Jon Bernthal has landed his next TV gig. Bursting onto the scene as Shane Walsh in the zombie apocalypse hit before being cast in the likes of The Punisher, The Wolf of Wall Street and this year's Those Who Wish Me Dead, Bernthal is now entering iconic territory in Showtime's limited series American Gigolo (via TVLine).

Before establishing himself as a Hollywood megastar thanks to leading roles in the likes of “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “The Cotton Club,” Richard Gere set a whole generation’s pulses racing as male escort Julian Kaye in Paul Schrader‘s 1980 noir thriller, “American Gigolo.” Now, Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher,” “Those Who Wish Me Dead“) is set to follow suit as the lead of Showtime’s small-screen adaptation of the classic ’80s thriller.

Showtime has given a series order to American Gigolo, its long-in-the-works series adaptation, with Ford v. Ferrari and The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal attached to star and produce. The project hails from David Hollander (Ray Donovan) Paramount TV Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

Showtime has announced that the upcoming American Gigolo series has been picked up and a 10-episode first season has been ordered!
