A warning has been issued over hundreds of fake Tesco gift card giveaways. Cyber Protect have issued the warning on social media.
Leading policing's Cyber Protect programme aims to safeguard the public and businesses from fraud and cyber crime. They tweeted on Social media site Twitter: "Watch out for FAKE Tesco emails about gift card giveaways. We've had 172 reports about them so far."
They ask people to report emails that feel suspicious, even if you're not certain they're a scam - they can check. Forward emails to: [email protected] #CyberProtect
Action Fraud has received 172 reports this month about fake emails purporting to be from Tesco. The emails state that the recipient has been selected for the chance to win a £500 Tesco gift card. The links provided in the emails lead to phishing websites that are designed to steal your personal and financial information.
Cyber Protect warn your bank will not ask you to share personal information over email or text. If you need to check it is a genuine message - contact them directly.
