Warner Bros Discovery has revamped its group focused on diversity, equity and inclusion and announced its new executive team.
Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Asif Sadiq will head the group. Other key leaders will include Karen Horne, SVP for North America; Rukasana Bhaijee, VP in Europe, Middle East, and Africa; Niarchos Pabalis, director for Latin America. All four report to Asif. A new role for Asia-Pacific to be announced soon.
The move comes nearly six months after the close of the $43 billion merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. The combined company has faced criticism in the early going over its decision to appoint a slate of entirely white, male directors to its board of directors and a relative lack of diversity in its top exec ranks. Advocates and lawmakers, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Joaquin Castro, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, have voiced their concerns.
In announcing the new configuration and team, WBD said it will “build on the strong foundation of both legacy companies, with established workforce programs and content/production initiatives continuing under a central strategy team.” The end goal will be to “drive long-term change both locally and worldwide.”
Overseeing these units will be Christian Hug, VP, Workforce; Grace Moss, VP, Pipeline Programs; and Yvette Urbina, VP, Content/Productions. These teams will work closely with the previously announced Creative and Business Councils, which will be led by WBD senior leaders.

The trailer debuted during a Nintendo Direct video presentation on Thursday. Alongside Pratt as its central character, the “Mario” movie boasts a star-studded cast of Mushroom Kingdom characters including Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. The trailer opens on Bowser and his massive, fiery castle descending upon an ice kingdom. Bowser’s army of Koopa Troopas, led by Spike the Magikoopa, face off against the ice kingdom’s legions of blue penguins, seen in the “Mario” games. However, the penguins’ snowballs are no match for Bowser. He burns down the icy castle and takes control of a “Mario” star power-up.

Discovery Access Music Supervisor program, which gives creative voices from historically underrepresented communities the training and tools to gain experience in television and film music supervision. The six selected participants, Mjeema Pickett, Tiffany Gouché, A.D. Johnson, Matthew Wang, Nikki Marshall and Willy Rodriguez, will participate in a curriculum developed by an advisory board of music supervisors Paul Broucek, President of Music, Warner Bros. Pictures; Bronwyn Savasta, SVP, Music, Warner Bros. Television; and Evyen Klean, Founder, Neophonic. The cohort will learn about production, IP management, publishing, soundtracks, deal negotiation in addition to music masters, record labels, research, clearance and licensing. The program will also allow participants to gain hands-on training in an experience that will assist in their future career goals in entertainment. After completing a string of Masterclasses, the cohort will be able to shadow a WBD music supervisor on a show or feature, through a partnership with HBO, HBO Max, WBTV and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Selome Hailu Hannah Gadsby has entered a multi-title deal at Netflix, under which they will tape their a new stand-up special for the streamer, in addition to hosting and producing another multi-comic special featuring gender-diverse comedians. Gadsby’s new hour-long special will premiere in 2023 and comes from the Australian leg of their most recently world tour, titled “Body of Work.” Taped at the Sydney Opera House with assistance from the Sydney Opera House trust, it will be Gadsby’s third piece of stand-up comedy for Netflix, following on the specials “Nanette” — which became a phenomenon in 2018 — and “Douglas” from 2020. The multi-comic special will be taped next year, with premiere timing yet to be announced. Along with spotlighting performers of various gender identities, the cast will also be chosen from several countries.
