The Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, got a late present from Santa this week when she was announced to the Songwriters Hall of Fame class of 2020. Carey is now doing exactly what the rest of us would get up to: she’s celebrating. 

After being nominated three times, Nine Inch Nails have finally locked down a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

The 2020 Songwriters Hall of Fame class has been revealed, and it includes several big names in the music industry. Mariah Carey will join the hall this year, as will The Neptunes (aka Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo). They join songwriter Rick Nowels, ‘80s duo Eurythmics, foundational group The Isley Brothers, and rock icon Steve Miller.

Late T. Rex leader Marc Bolan would have been of a few minds about the band's just-announced Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, according to Gloria Jones, his girlfriend, bandmate and mother of their son, Rolan Feld Bolan.On one hand, Jones tells Billboard from Sierra Leone -- where Rolan established the Marc Bolan School of Music and Film -- "He would have said, 'It's about time!'" before adding with a laugh that she's joking.

It's been over 30 years since Aretha Franklin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first (and then only) female artist among the 25 acts enshrined in the Cleveland museum. Three decades and change later, women have become a more regular presence within the Hall of Fame, but not by much: In the last five classes, only six female or female-fronted acts have been inducted, and all in all, Rock Hall membership is still under eight percent female.
