But “Val,” a chronicle of the method actor behind “The Doors” and “Top Gun,” also ranks as a buzzy purchase as Amazon makes moves to compete in the streaming wars.Amazon Studios will release the documentary later this year in the U.S. and Latin America.

It has also created a detailed “playbook” with hiring and purchasing guidelines for the studio’s creative collaborators.The policies have been in development for more than two years, shepherded by Latasha Gillespie, head of DE&I for Amazon Studios.
Davin has spent the past year overseeing marketing campaigns for Amazon titles like Eddie Murphy’s “Coming 2 America” and Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” which went on to earn two Oscar nominations. He was hired in April 2020 from Netflix, where he served as he served as VP of global creative marketing on films like “Roma” and “The Irishman.” He has also held senior marketing positions at Warner Bros.
